Replacing a forklift inner tube sounds simple — until the tube shows up and the valve stem won't fit through the wheel, or it's the right valve but the wrong size. Inner tubes are one of the most-returned parts in industrial tire buying, and almost every wrong-tube order traces back to the same two details: the valve stem type and the tire size. Get both right and the tube drops in. Miss either one and it won't install.

The short answer
- Order a tube by two things first: the valve stem type (TR75A, TRJS2, TR15, and so on) and the tire size it sits inside. Both have to match.
- The valve is where most orders go wrong. It must match your wheel's rim hole in size, angle, and clearance — even a correct-size tube won't work with the wrong valve.
- Only tube-type pneumatic (air) tires use a tube. Solid resilient, cushion press-on, and polyurethane press-on tires don't use a tube or flap at all.
- Don't forget the liner flap. Most tube-type forklift assemblies use a liner flap between the tube and rim — replace it with the tube if it's worn.

First: do you even need an inner tube?
An inner tube only belongs in a tube-type pneumatic (air-filled) tire. The tube is the part that actually holds the air; the tire is the casing around it. If your forklift runs any of the solid tire types, there is no tube and no flap involved at all:

The flap matters more than most buyers think. A worn or missing flap lets the sharp edges of a multi-piece industrial rim chafe and pinch the new tube, which is a common cause of a "brand-new" tube failing within weeks. Shop liner flaps by rim size when you order the tube.
Start with the valve stem — it's where most orders go wrong
If you only get one thing right, make it the valve. The valve stem has to pass through the hole in your wheel and seat properly — which means it has to match that rim hole in diameter, angle (bent or straight), and length/clearance. A tube that's the perfect size for your tire is still useless if the valve won't fit the wheel, or if a straight valve points into a spoke where you can't reach it with an air chuck.
Forklift and industrial valve stems are identified by a TR number — an industry designation (originally from the Tire and Rim Association) that describes the valve's shape and dimensions. The two things the TR number tells you at a glance:
- Bent or straight: Bent valves (like the TR75A and TRJS2) are angled to give an air chuck clearance in tight, deep-dish industrial wheels. Straight valves (like the TR15 and TR218A) pass straight through the rim.
- Size class: Small rubber/snap-in stems (TR13, TR15) for lighter wheels; larger metal clamp-in stems (the TR75A family, TR218A, TR220A) for heavy industrial and OTR wheels with bigger rim holes and higher pressures.

If you run liquid ballast (calcium or beet juice), use a ballast-rated valve such as the TR218A or TR220A — small rubber stems like the TR13 and TR15 are not made for liquid fill.
The TR cross-reference: two numbers, one valve
Here's the detail that causes a surprising number of duplicate and wrong orders: many forklift valves are sold under two different numbers. The larger metal clamp-in stems carry both an older "TRxxA" designation and a newer "TR4xx" designation for the same valve family. They are cross-referenced equivalents — same mounting, same application — which is exactly why we list them together:

So if a supplier quotes you a "TR440" and your old tube says "TR75A," you're looking at the same valve family — not a different part. Within a family the stems differ mainly in length, so still confirm the size and reach you need on the product page.
How to identify your valve type
You don't need to measure anything exotic. Work through these in order:
- Read the old tube. The valve type is usually molded or stamped near the base of the stem (for example "TR75A"). If you can read it, you're done — match that number.
- Look at the shape. No marking? Note whether the stem is straight or bent, and whether it's a small rubber stem or a large metal clamp-in stem. That narrows it to a couple of options fast.
- Check the rim hole. The valve has to match the wheel's hole in diameter and angle. A bent valve in a deep wheel usually means you need a bent stem (TR75A family or TRJS2); a small straight hole points to a TR13 or TR15.
- Match the tire size too. Valve type narrows the subcategory; tire size picks the exact tube within it (next section).

Match the tube to your tire size
Once you have the valve type, the tube has to fit the size of the tire it sits inside. Read your size off the tire sidewall (for example 7.00-12 or 28x9-15). A few sizing realities that trip people up:
- One tube often covers several close sizes. Tube rubber stretches, so a single tube is frequently rated for a small range — for example one tube fits both 6.50-10 and 7.50-10, and another fits 5.70-8 and 5.00-8. The product page lists every size a given tube covers.
- The valve must still match within that size. The same tire size can be offered with different valve stems, so don't assume — confirm the valve on the listing matches yours.
- Severe service? Consider a "double weight" tube. Some sizes are available as extra-heavy-duty tubes built with thicker rubber for high-heat, high-cycle, or heavy-load use. They cost more but resist failure in punishing duty.

Don't forget the liner flap
The liner flap is the cheap part that protects the expensive one. It sits between the tube and the rim and shields the tube from the rim's edges, the valve slot, and any rust or burrs. On multi-piece industrial wheels — the kind most forklifts use — a missing or cracked flap is one of the fastest ways to kill a new tube.
Rule of thumb: inspect the flap every time you replace a tube, and replace it if it's cracked, flattened, or torn. Flaps are sold by rim size on the liner flaps page, and ordering the tube and flap together puts you toward the automatic quantity discount. 5 common inner-tube ordering mistakes
Almost every wrong-tube return we see comes from one of these:
- Right size, wrong valve. The tube fits the tire but the valve won't pass through (or reach past) the wheel. Always confirm the valve type, not just the size.
- Assuming TR75A and TR440 are different parts. They're the same valve family under two numbers — see the cross-reference above before you order two of anything.
- Buying a tube for a solid or press-on tire. Solid resilient, cushion, and polyurethane tires don't use tubes — if you're on solids, you don't need one.
- Skipping the flap. Reusing a worn flap pinches the new tube. Replace it with the tube when it's worn.
- Guessing the size from the rim instead of the tire. The tube matches the tire size, not the wheel diameter alone — read it off the tire sidewall.
